Week 01 demo artifact

One Task, Three Ways

Same poster problem. Different amount of human direction. The lesson: output quality follows the brief, and the human keeps authorship.

Weak Prompt

Make a poster concept for an art school degree show.
INSTRUCTOR: drop screenshot or generated concept here

Human decisions still required

  • Audience
  • Format and production method
  • Voice and references
  • What to reject

Creative Brief

Act as a practical creative director. I'm designing a poster for NCAD's degree show, "Field Notes." Audience: Dublin creative industry + students' families. Tone: confident, not corporate; the work is the hero. Constraints: A1 print, must work pasted in cafes and on Instagram stories, two-colour risograph (teal + warm black), typography-led because student work varies wildly in style. Give me 5 directions. For each: concept in one line, headline treatment idea, layout sketch in words, and one risk. Don't pick a winner - that's my job.

Human decisions still required

  • Which direction has taste
  • Which risk matters
  • What is too generic
  • Final design craft

After Critique Loop

Direction 3 is the weakest. Critique it against my brief: where is it generic, where does it fight the riso constraint, what would a skeptical Dublin designer roll their eyes at? Then give me two sharper variants that fix those problems.

Human decisions still required

  • Accept or reject the critique
  • Repair impossible constraints
  • Choose what survives
