# Portfolio AI Disclosure Language

Use plain, specific language. Name what AI did and what you did. Specificity is the difference between transparency and a confession.

**Avoid vague claims:** "Made with AI." "AI-assisted." These disclose nothing and invite the worst assumption.

**The pattern:** `AI did [specific tasks]. I did [the decisions and craft]. [Optional: evidence offer.]`

## Portfolio / case study

> AI was used during research and early ideation to generate alternate directions and critique prompts. Final concept, editing, layout, and production decisions were completed by me.

> Background textures were generated with [tool], then composited, repainted, and colour-graded by hand. Characters, composition, and typography are original work.

> I used [tool] to draft the shot list and production checklist from my treatment. All design, animation, and edit decisions are mine.

## Process-only use (the most common case)

> AI tools supported research synthesis and file organization on this project. No generated content appears in the final work.

## Client-facing process note

> Our process uses AI tools for research synthesis, iteration, and production planning. All creative decisions, final artwork, and quality control are human. We're happy to walk through the process log.

## Academic / assessed work

> In line with module guidance, I used [tool] for [specific tasks: e.g., summarizing sources, generating layout variants]. Prompts and outputs are included in my process appendix. All analysis, conclusions, and final work are my own.

## Competition / publication (check rules first — rules beat templates)

> This work includes AI-generated elements: [list them precisely]. Human authorship: [concept, art direction, selection, post-work]. Created [date] with [tools/versions].

## Social media caption (short form)

> Process note: textures generated, everything else hand-built. Happy to share the breakdown.

## When you DIDN'T use AI (increasingly worth saying)

> No generative AI was used in this work.

As feeds fill with slop, this sentence is gaining market value. It must be true — including "no AI in the reference images."

## Calibration table

| AI's actual role | Disclose in portfolio? | Suggested depth |
|---|---|---|
| Research, summaries, scheduling, naming | Optional | One process-note line builds trust |
| Critique loops on your own work | Optional | Mention if asked; it reads as rigour |
| Generated references/moodboards (none in final) | Recommended | One line, like the process-only example |
| Generated content edited into the final | **Required** | Name the regions/elements and your post-work |
| Generated content as the final | **Required + reconsider** | If you can't defend the authorship, it may not belong in your portfolio |

**Rule that overrides this table:** competition rules, client contracts, and module handbooks beat personal judgment. Read them first.
