Week 1 Readiness Check

Required Software

Motion Design requires heavy tools. We will be jumping into production immediately. You must have the following software installed, updated, and logged in before the first day of class.

⏳ Do Not Wait Until Class Starts

Installing this full suite can take several hours depending on your internet connection. We will not pause the lecture for software installation.

01 — Adobe Creative Cloud

We use a hybrid workflow of Stable and Beta releases. You need both installed via the Creative Cloud Desktop App.

The Production Suite

The Beta Suite (AI Tools)

Keep these updated in tandem with the stable builds. We use these for the latest Generative Fill and AI masking features.

  • After Effects (BETA)
  • Photoshop (BETA)
  • Illustrator (BETA)
  • Premiere Pro (BETA)

02 — 3D & Game Engines

These are heavy applications. Ensure you have significant hard drive space available.

Blender 5.0

Our primary 3D Modeling and Animation tool. Free and open source.

Unreal Engine 5.7

Real-time rendering and virtual production. Free for students.

Autodesk Maya

Industry standard for character animation rigs. Free educational license available.

Adobe Substance 3D

For advanced texturing: Painter, Sampler, and Modeler.

💾 Check Your Disk Space

The software list above requires approx 100GB+ of space. If your laptop is full, clear it out or buy an external SSD immediately.
